Taylor Swift Surpasses Drake’s Streaming Record with Blockbuster Album

In a twist that seems straight out of a musical showdown, Taylor Swift has seized the crown from Drake with her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” shattering streaming records along the way.

Swift’s triumph echoes a prophecy hinted at by Drake himself in his previous track, “Taylor Made Freestyle,” where he acknowledged Swift’s dominance in the music scene. “Shout out to Taylor Swift, biggest gangster in the music game right now,” he proclaimed, predicting her meteoric rise. And rise she did, as her album racked up a staggering 891 million streams in its first week in the U.S., dethroning Drake’s “Scorpion,” which held the record with 746 million streams back in 2018.

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT ALBUM

The accolades don’t end there. “The Tortured Poets Department” debuted at the summit of the Billboard 200 chart, selling an impressive 2.61 million album-equivalent units. This places Swift and Drake in a continual battle for commercial supremacy. Notably, Swift has also joined Jay-Z in the annals of history with 14 chart-topping albums each, tying for the most by a solo artist. Only The Beatles, with 19 No. 1 projects, stand ahead of them.

The irony of Swift’s triumph over Drake, especially given their past entanglements in Drake’s feuds, is not lost on observers. Drake had previously drawn Swift into his beef with Kendrick Lamar, a move that Swift may or may not have taken notice of. However, amidst this rivalry, Drake celebrates his own milestones, such as the recent eighth anniversary of “Views,” an album that marked a commercial breakthrough for him.

Drake’s willingness to openly discuss Swift contrasts with other artists’ cautiousness. Machine Gun Kelly, for instance, recently sidestepped questions about Swift, wary of facing the ire of her devoted fanbase. Whether Swift or her fans will address Drake’s involvement in her past beefs remains to be seen. In the world of music, it seems, the drama never ends.
