Tupac Shakur’s Signed Above The Rim Script Hits Auction Block
A rare piece of hip-hop and film history is now up for grabs as Tupac Shakur’s autographed Above The Rim script is set to be auctioned.
Signed Script from Iconic Film
Nate D. Sanders Auctions is offering several pages from the 1994 film’s script, signed by the legendary rapper-actor himself along with the entire cast. The signatures were reportedly collected by David Bailey, who portrayed Coach Mike Rollins in the movie. Along with the script, the auction package includes a behind-the-scenes photo from the set, depicting a pivotal moment: Leon’s character lying on the ground after being shot during the film’s climax.
Bidding starts at $2,500 and kicks off on Thursday, November 21.
Tupac’s Role in Above The Rim
In the basketball drama, Tupac portrayed the ruthless antagonist Birdie Sheppard. The movie also featured an ensemble cast, including Duane Martin, Leon, Bernie Mac, and Marlon Wayans. Above The Rim was one of several standout roles in Tupac’s acting career, which also included Juice (1991), Poetic Justice (1993), Bullet (1996), Gridlock’d (1997), and Gang Related (1997).
Tupac Memorabilia Continues to Draw Interest
Since Tupac’s tragic death in September 1996, numerous items tied to the iconic artist have hit the auction block, often fetching high prices. These include the BMW he was fatally shot in, listed for $1.7 million, as well as personal items like his red bandana, handwritten letters, jail ID, and lyrics. Just last July, Drake made headlines by purchasing Tupac’s gold crown ring for $1 million.
For fans and collectors, this signed Above The Rim script represents yet another chance to own a piece of Tupac’s enduring legacy.
Birdie serves as the film’s primary antagonist, using intimidation and violence to control others, including his brother and players, to achieve his goals. His character was pivotal in driving the tension and drama in the movie. Tupac’s biological father tried reaching out to him during this time on set.
