Larenz Tate To Portray Berry Gordie In Michael Jackson Biopic

Kat Graham has been cast as Diana Ross and Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic titled “Michael.” The film, which traces Jackson’s journey from his time with the Jackson 5 to his solo career, will heavily feature Motown Records, the iconic label where Jackson rose to fame.

Larenz Tate, known for his role in the “Power” franchise, takes on the role of Berry Gordy, the visionary behind Motown who launched the careers of numerous legendary artists. Kat Graham, recognized for her work in “Love in the Villa” and Tyler Perry’s upcoming “Black, White & Blue,” portrays Diana Ross, who played a pivotal role in introducing the Jackson 5 to the world and remained a significant influence on Michael Jackson throughout his life.

Joining the cast are Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark, KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Jackson’s trusted friend Bill Bray, and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, who collaborated with Michael on several successful albums.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, “Michael” has assembled a star-studded cast, including Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson and young actor Juliano Krue Valdi portraying Jackson at different stages of his life. Colman Domingo and Nia Long will portray Joe and Katherine Jackson, while Miles Teller will play Jackson’s attorney John Branca. Laura Harrier is set to depict pioneering music executive Suzanne de Passe.

Produced by Graham King of GK Films, known for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the film is slated for release on April 18, 2025. The script, penned by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, promises a comprehensive exploration of Jackson’s life, including his triumphs, struggles, and the media scrutiny he faced. Prince Jackson, Michael’s eldest son, is collaborating closely with the production team.

The film aims to present an authentic portrayal of Jackson’s genius and complexities, offering audiences an inside look at one of the most influential artists in history.
