Biggie Smalls’ Catalog Sale & Diddy’s Alleged Ties Concerns Gene Deal

Ex-Bodyguard Raises Concerns Over Biggie Smalls’ Catalog Sale and Diddy’s Alleged Ties

Gene Deal suggests that the figures brokering the sale of Biggie Smalls’ publishing rights have longstanding connections to Diddy.

The recent news that the late Biggie Smalls’ publishing and publicity rights are being sold for a reported $100 million to $150 million has sparked controversy, with some questioning the motivations behind the deal. One of the most vocal critics is Gene Deal, Diddy’s former bodyguard, who alleges that the individuals orchestrating the sale may not have the best interests of Biggie’s family in mind.

In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Deal specifically called out Mark Pitts and Wayne Barrow—two figures who worked with Biggie at Bad Boy Records and are now overseeing the deal. He claimed that while Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, was in the final stages of her life, these two were actively negotiating the sale of Biggie’s publishing, marketing, and publicity rights.

“They are working out a deal for themselves,” Deal alleged. “’Cause it ain’t for Miss Wallace. It ain’t for B.I.G.’s kids.”

Voletta Wallace’s Passing and the Estate’s Sale

Wallace passed away last month at her home in Pennsylvania due to natural causes. Deal pointed to Pitts and Barrow’s history with Diddy, claiming that they were originally put in position by the music mogul and have maintained their influence over Biggie’s estate ever since.

“I read that the executives handling this are Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts. Those are the dudes that Puff put into play,” Deal stated. “These are the same guys who, after Big died, took over his marketing and publishing… Now, they’re looking to cash out for $100 to $150 million.”

Reports indicate that negotiations are nearly complete, with Biggie’s catalog expected to be sold to Primary Wave, a company known for acquiring the rights to legendary artists’ music.

Gene Deal’s History of Calling Out Diddy

Deal has been vocal about Diddy and his past dealings, making several claims over the years regarding the mogul’s involvement in Biggie’s legacy. Last October, he appeared on the Paperwork Party Podcast, where he briefly spoke with Voletta Wallace. Following their conversation, he suggested that she supported his efforts to expose Diddy.

At the time, many speculated that Deal was referring to long-standing theories surrounding the deaths of both 2Pac and Biggie. Whether his latest claims hold weight or not, the sale of Biggie’s catalog remains a hot topic—one that continues to stir debate among fans and insiders alike.
