Tina Knowles Endorses Kamala Harris & She Endorses Beyonce In Song
The Democratic Nominee Amplifies Her Campaign with “Freedom.”
Kamala Harris isn’t wasting any time in her new role. Following President Joe Biden’s resignation on Sunday, July 21, Harris, now the Democratic nominee, made a significant statement with her walk-out music during her speech on July 22. Emphasizing the power of strong branding, the Vice President chose Beyoncé‘s “Freedom” as her anthem. Released on Beyoncé’s self-titled album, “Freedom” is celebrated as an anthem dedicated to Black women, making it a fitting choice for Harris, given her public profile and the song’s powerful message.
This isn’t the first time Harris has aligned herself with Beyoncé’s music. In a 2023 interview with People Magazine, she revealed attending Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour and named “Break My Soul” as her favorite song from the Renaissance album. “I just love that song,” Harris said. “I play it all the time. It’s one of the anthems for women. When [Beyoncé says] ‘you,’ it could be life, a person, or a situation. You will not break my soul.” Harris also praised Beyoncé’s last album, Cowboy Carter, on Twitter, acknowledging Beyoncé’s influence in redefining a genre and reclaiming country music’s Black roots. “Your music continues to inspire us all,” Harris tweeted.

The timing of Harris’ choice to use “Freedom” couldn’t have been more strategic. On the same day, Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, endorsed Harris’ presidential bid. “You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country,” Knowles stated on Instagram. “Putting personal ego, power, and fame aside. That is the definition of a great leader,” she praised Biden for his decision and expressed her full support for Harris. “Thank you, President Biden, for your service and leadership. Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President.”
While Beyoncé herself hasn’t publicly commented on Kamala Harris, she did provide the Vice President with free tickets to her show in 2023. NBC News reported that these tickets were valued at $1,655.92. Harris reciprocated by posting photos from the concert and thanking Beyoncé for the generous gesture. “Thanks for a fun date night, @Beyonce,” she wrote on August 6. Both Beyoncé and JAY-Z have previously expressed their friendship with the Obamas and have been vocal about their political views. Whether Beyoncé will publicly support Harris remains to be seen.
