South Korean K Pop Singer Wheesung Found Dead At 43
South Korean singer Wheesung, born Choi Whee-sung, was found deceased in his Seoul apartment on March 10, 2025, at the age of 43 according to CNN. Emergency responders discovered him unresponsive after his mother called for assistance. Authorities reported no immediate signs of foul play but have requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death, noting that a significant amount of time had elapsed since he passed.
Wheesung began his music career in 1999 as a member of the boy band A4 before embarking on a solo journey in 2002 with his debut album “Like a Movie.” He quickly gained recognition for his soulful vocals and was instrumental in popularizing R&B in South Korea. His hits, such as “With Me” (2003) and a Korean rendition of Craig David’s “Insomnia” (2009), solidified his status in the music industry.
A PROLIFIC SONGWRITER & PRODUCER
Beyond his performances, Wheesung was a prolific songwriter and producer. He penned lyrics for several K-pop hits, including Younha’s “Password 486” (2007) and TWICE’s “Dance the Night Away” (2018). He also played a pivotal role in launching the career of singer Ailee, producing her debut single “Heaven” in 2012.
In recent years, Wheesung faced personal challenges, including legal issues related to the use of propofol, a surgical anesthetic sometimes misused recreationally. In 2021, he received a suspended jail sentence for its use. Despite these struggles, he continued to engage with his fans and was scheduled to perform in Daegu alongside singer KCM on March 15. His final social media post mentioned his preparation for the concert, stating, “Weight loss completed. See you on March 15.”
