So THIS Is What Happened to the Original Claire on ‘My Wife and Kids’

The family sitcom “My Wife and Kids” starred Damon Wayans and Tisha Campbell. Many people recognize Jazz Raycole for playing Claire Kyle on “My Wife and Kids.” But after just one season on the ABC program, Jazz disappeared and was replaced by actress Jennifer Nicole Freeman. Here’s what happened.

The show even acknowledged the recasting in a line of dialogue: In one scene, Michael observes that there’s something different about Claire. “Whatever it is, you look like a whole different person,” he says.

According to The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable Shows, producers recast the role of Claire after Jazz’s mother objected to a storyline in which one of Claire’s friends becomes pregnant.

Jazz reflected on herMy Wife and Kids departure in an interview with The Christian Post ten years later. ”I was 12 years old when I got that job. The producers wanted a different thing, they wanted someone a little bit older. I wasn’t ready for that,” she said. “I ended up going to New York to dance, which was my first passion. I really thank God for that because I got to grow and travel.”
