RIP Toronto Rapper Bishop Brigante Who Passed Away At Age 46
The hip-hop community is grieving the loss of Toronto rapper Bishop Brigante, who passed away from colorectal cancer on Sunday at the age of 46.
WorldWide Entertainment TV Media spoke with Bishop Brigante in the Toronto Youtube studios years ago as he talked about his career moments and more in the video below.
Brigante, a respected recording artist, earned recognition for several hit songs, including his 2007 collaboration with Nate Dogg, “It’s Fo Twenty,” and his 2018 single “Trust Nobody.” A foundational figure in Canadian battle rap, Brigante’s presence in the scene was widely celebrated. Beyond music, he showcased his acting talent with appearances in the sci-fi series “Orphan Black” and the 2002 crime thriller “Narc,” alongside Ray Liotta.
“The words ‘local legend’ are often thrown around, but Bishop Brigante embodied the term,” said Dalton Higgins, a Toronto music writer and publicist. “He had a unique swagger, charisma, and passion for life that set him apart. His influence on the local scene was undeniable.”
Brigante’s son, 19-year-old Lito, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram.
“I am so grateful my father passed at peace, surrounded by love and care,” Lito wrote. “Not only was he a light to others, but he also carried his own light through his love, Melanie.”

Open about his health journey, Brigante revealed in 2023 that his colorectal cancer had initially been misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). After receiving the correct diagnosis, he became an advocate for early detection, urging the Ontario government to lower the minimum colonoscopy screening age from 50 to 30.
“My father was a fighter in every sense,” Lito continued. “He overcame countless obstacles and never saw anything as impossible. He fought not only for himself but also to ensure others wouldn’t endure the same challenges.”
Tributes poured in from across North America, with heartfelt messages from artists such as Maestro Fresh Wes, Choclair, Royce da 5’9”, and The Alchemist. Brigante’s impact on the music industry and his advocacy for cancer awareness will leave a lasting legacy.
