Rapper Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has died at 34, reportedly due to a drug overdose, according to statements from several prominent artists and music industry personalities.
News of Quan’s death began to circulate on social media early Thursday morning. While the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, it has been verified that the rapper passed away at his Georgia home on the morning of Thursday, September 5.
TMZ confirmed the tragic news through a statement from Quan’s family and a representative from the Fulton County morgue.
Rich Homie Quan rose to fame in the early 2010s, making a significant impact on the hip-hop scene. He gained widespread recognition in 2013 with his breakout hit “Type of Way,” and went on to achieve further success with tracks like “Ride Out” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” He also made notable contributions to Young Thug’s hit “Lifestyle” in 2014 and frequently collaborated with other Atlanta-based rappers, including 2 Chainz, and appeared on the iconic Travis Scott track “Mamacita.”
The news of Quan’s death spread earlier today when fellow Rich Gang member Jacquees and frequent collaborator Boosie Badazz shared the news on social media.
Tributes have been pouring in from fellow artists and fans. Boosie Badazz, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), suggested that Quan had overdosed, although the specific substance involved has not been disclosed. “JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA,” Boosie wrote. “Never gonna forget your smile, the way you talked, and of course, your music.”
Adam22 of No Jumper also paid tribute, sharing a photo of Quan on social media with the simple caption, “RIP Rich Homie Quan.”
