Nicki Minaj & Doechii Debate Erupts Online After Grammys

Doechii lands in historic group of women in rap after Grammy win.

Doechii revealed that her creative approach is deeply influenced by artists like Eminem, Slick Rick, and Nicki Minaj, pointing to their ability to evoke strong emotions through the lyrics and delivery.

She received the highest award for rap at the 2025 Grammy event with “rap album of the year.” However, some fans felt that her speech may have been a shot at Nicki Minaj’s lack of Grammys and representation through history for her music.

THE GRAMMYS NEVER ENDING DEBATE

Drake and Eminem have spoken out against the award show before about it having its favorites and the voting process is rigged. Fans took to twitter to once again remind everyone of this by posting clips by the rappers.

Despite this debate above, The “Swamp Princess” is now a Grammy-certified royal.

Breakout hip-hop star Doechii took home the prize for best rap album at the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday. The Tampa, Florida, emcee became the third woman in the award show’s history, behind Lauryn Hill (1997) and Cardi B (2019), to win the honor.

“I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape,” said a teary-eyed Doechii, who was presented the award by Cardi B herself. “I bared my life. I went through so much. I dedicated myself to sobriety and God told me that I would be rewarded and that He would show me just how good it can get.”

The rapper’s 2024 mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal,” the project that won her best rap album, is a lyrical exhibition that is equal parts contemporary R&B (“Slide”), introspective “real hip-hop” (a trope Doechii has fun with on “Boom Bap”) and braggadocious rap (“Nissan Altima,” “Catfish”).

As fans celebrate that another woman makes history with having the rap album of the year, there are some who feel the Nicki Minaj situation with Grammys need to be rectified. One user on X platform wrote:

Nicki Minaj having one of the best female rap albums and honestly the best rap album of the year imo and for it not to be nominated for a Grammy! It really doesn’t sit right with me. And it’s not fair.
