Nicki Minaj Defends Lil Wayne After Super Bowl Snub

Nicki Minaj sends shade to Jay-Z over Super Bowl halftime show.

Nicki Minaj is standing up for her longtime collaborator Lil Wayne after feeling he was unfairly passed over for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans. On Monday, Minaj voiced her anger towards JAY-Z, who played a role in selecting Kendrick Lamar to perform at the event. Minaj felt that Wayne, a hometown hero and hip-hop icon, deserved the spot instead.

“Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego,” Minaj wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sht sad. House N*R TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!!! No loyalty? Welp. then n**z will keep son’ing you!!!!!”

Minaj continued by reflecting on her deep connection with Wayne and the impact he’s had on her career. “And btw, you don’t know the half of what lil Wayne has done for me & others,” she added. “Wayne had drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip hop. The hair too. IYKYK. He inspired so many to tat their faces & get locks. Inspired your faves to wanna be a great MC. he never was in this for the money. It’s always been for the love of music.”

Minaj isn’t alone in her frustration; other artists like Master P and Cam’ron have also voiced their disappointment with the NFL for overlooking Wayne for the halftime show.Beyond his own music, Wayne is also the founder of the record label Young Money Entertainment, which has launched the careers of several successful artists, including Nicki Minaj and Drake.
