Jay-Z Accuser Admits Errors in Allegations In Interview

Jay-Z has publicly responded to allegations of sexual assault brought against him and Sean “Diddy” Combs by a woman who claims she was raped by the two music moguls when she was 13 years old. The accuser, identified as Jane Doe, recently addressed inconsistencies in her account during an interview with NBC News but affirmed her belief in the overall truth of her story.

“Not all the faces are clear” in her memory of the events that occurred over two decades ago, Jane Doe admitted. “I have made some mistakes. I may have made a mistake in identifying.”

NBC News investigated the claims and spoke with Jane Doe and her father, who Jane Doe said had picked her up after the alleged assault. However, her father refuted this part of her story, stating, “I feel like I would remember that, and I don’t. I have a lot going on, but I mean, that’s something that would definitely stick in my mind.” The drive in question would have required traveling over five hours from their home to the alleged incident’s location.

Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, offered an explanation, saying, “We agree he states he doesn’t remember. His daughter explains that he was in no state to remember during that point in time due to personal issues he was having then. We are talking about a time frame more than 20 years ago.”

Further inconsistencies arose when Jane Doe claimed she encountered musician Benji Madden at a 2000s VMAs after-party on the night she says she was assaulted. NBC confirmed that neither Benji nor his brother Joel Madden attended the 2000 VMAs. Despite these discrepancies, Jane Doe remained steadfast in her broader claims. “What is the clearest is what happened to me and the route that I took to what happened to me,” she said.

Jay-Z, through a statement and comments from his lawyer, has vehemently denied the accusations. “This ‘attorney’ Buzbee filed a false complaint against me in the pursuit of money and fame,” Jay-Z wrote. “This incident didn’t happen, and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press. True justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began. This 1-800 lawyer doesn’t realize it yet, but soon.”

Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, echoed his client’s sentiments, releasing a statement through Roc Nation. “It is stunning that a lawyer would not only file such a serious complaint without proper vetting but would make things worse by further peddling this false story in the press,” Spiro said. “We are asking the Court to dismiss this frivolous case today and will take up the matter of additional discipline for Mr. Buzbee and all the lawyers that filed the complaint.”

Meanwhile, Buzbee defended his firm’s handling of the case and addressed the emotional toll the situation has taken on his client. “Jane Doe’s case was referred to our firm by another, who vetted it prior to sending it to us,” he told NBC. “Our client remains fiercely adamant that what she has stated is true, to the best of her memory. We will continue to vet her claims and collect corroborating data to the extent it exists. Because we have interrogated her intensely, she has even agreed to submit to a polygraph. I’ve never had a client suggest that before.”

He added, “In any event, we always do our best to vet each claim made, just as we did in this case.”
