Kanye West Praises Toronto’s Drake & Top5 As Big 3 With Himself

Kanye West has been stirring up controversy lately, taking shots at numerous artists, companies, and even entire groups — often for reasons that seem unrelated to his own story. However, one positive development from Ye’s recent activity is that he’s been patching up old feuds, even as he sparks new ones.

As highlighted by AkademiksTV on Twitter, Kanye appeared to tweet — and quickly delete — the names of three artists. Many speculated, including the Akademiks page, that this was Ye’s version of naming a new “Big Three.” Traditionally, the “Big Three” refers to Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and J. Cole, but only one of those artists made it onto Kanye’s latest list.

Reportedly, Kanye tweeted on Saturday (April 26), “Ye [goat emoji] Drake [goat emoji] Top5 [salute emoji].” Earlier this year, Kanye officially ended his beef with the Toronto rappers Drake and Top5. Given Kanye and Drake’s rocky history, fans are understandably cautious about seeing this as a permanent peace.

Why Did Kanye West Make Amends with Drake?

It seems that Drake’s lawsuit against UMG played a major role in Kanye’s decision to publicly side with him this time around. As for Top5, he had previously called out Kanye, demanding acknowledgment. It’s unclear whether that stemmed from Ye’s longstanding issues with Drake or was simply a separate situation.

Either way, Kanye reportedly asked The Game about Top5, leading The Game to reach out and resolve things with the Canadian rapper. Ironically, this move initially upset Kanye, who called out The Game publicly — but according to Chuck Taylor, that was actually part of Kanye’s plan to settle things all along.

This new “Big Three” moment also stands out because of who’s missing. In a different era, Kanye might have included longtime collaborators like Kendrick Lamar, Playboi Carti, or Future — all artists he’s now at odds with.

At this rate, Kanye’s alliances in hip-hop seem bound to keep shifting. And if he posts another list next year, the only constant might just be himself.
