XXXTentacion’s Killer Calls Out Drake in Appeal Brief
Dedrick Williams, one of three defendants convicted for his involvement in the murder of rapper XXXTentacion, is filing court documents for an appeal. In his petition, Williams’ attorney, Mauricio Padilla, points to rapper Drake’s alleged feud with the victim as proof that he could be an alternate suspect. Padilla sat down with Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber to talk about the filings.

The murder case involves four men charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery for XXXTentacion‘s fatal shooting during a robbery in 2018. The trial has seen various conspiracy theories circulate, but none have substantiated claims linking Drake or other high-profile figures listed as witnesses.
Despite no evidence connecting Drake to the crime, the defense lawyer for Dedrick Williams, one of the accused, has brought up the feud as a potential alternative theory. The lawyer unsuccessfully attempted to subpoena Drake for a deposition earlier, leading to a court order mandating his testimony.
The murder of rapper XXXTentacion (Jahseh Onfroy) occurred on June 18, 2018, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was 20 years old at the time. XXXTentacion was ambushed and fatally shot in his car during a robbery outside a motorcycle dealership. The attackers fled the scene after stealing a bag containing $50,000 in cash, which XXXTentacion had just withdrawn from a bank.
FOUR SUSPECTS CAPTURED FOR MURDER
Surveillance footage captured the suspects arriving at the dealership and later blocking XXXTentacion’s car in the parking lot. The attack unfolded quickly, ending with XXXTentacion being shot multiple times.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Law enforcement promptly arrested the suspects, and the trial for Williams, Boatwright, and Newsome began in early 2023. Allen’s cooperation with authorities provided critical testimony against the others. The prosecution emphasized evidence such as surveillance footage and cell phone records tying the suspects to the crime.
