Whitney Houston’s Iconic South Africa Concert to Be Released as Live Album

In collaboration with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and Primary Wave Music, Legacy Recordings will release Whitney Houston: The Concert for a New South Africa (Durban) on Friday, November 8, marking 30 years since her historic performance in South Africa. The live album captures unforgettable hits like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “How Will I Know,” along with her powerful renditions of “Amazing Grace” and “Home” from The Wiz.

Clive Davis, who famously signed Houston to Arista Records, praised her legacy, stating, “There will never be another Whitney Houston.” Pat Houston, executor of her estate, expressed excitement over the long-awaited release, which she says highlights Whitney’s incomparable vocal talent.

In addition to the album, a never-before-seen concert film from Durban, fully remastered in 4K and enhanced with new audio, will be shown in cinemas worldwide on October 23 and 27. Screenings will take place across 30 countries, including the U.S., U.K., and South Africa.

Houston’s 1994 concerts in South Africa, including the Durban performance, were not just musical milestones but symbols of freedom and unity, following Nelson Mandela’s election. Proceeds from the concerts supported South African children’s charities.

The live album will be available in CD, vinyl, and digital formats, each with unique track listings. The CD and digital versions will also feature the first-ever release of Houston’s studio recording of “Love Is.”

Tickets for the concert film are now available.
