When I Turned Black Trends After Trump Disses Kamala Harris

Social Media has field day with #WhenITurnedBlack hashtag trend.

Vice President Kamala Harris responded to former President Donald Trump’s combative tone during his interview with the National Association of Black Journalists, in which he falsely claimed that Harris “happened to turn Black” a few years ago.

The discussion began with Scott questioning Trump on why Black voters should trust him, given his repeated inflammatory comments about Black people.

“Well, first of all, I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner,” Trump responded, before questioning whether Scott was from “fake news network” ABC News. When he later attacked Scott again, an audience member shouted back in her defense.

Scott proceeded to ask Trump about Republicans’ claims that Harris is a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) replacement for Joe Biden.

DONALD TRUMP QUESTIONS HARRIS’ RACIAL IDENTITY

In response, Trump alleged that Harris suddenly “became a Black woman” and had previously only identified with her Indian heritage. “Is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump asked, prompting audible gasps from the audience. “I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t because she was Indian all the way and then all of a sudden she became a Black woman.”

On Wednesday, Vice President Harris dismissed Trump’s false assertions about her race as the “same old show” and highlighted the importance of Black women organizing to defeat him in the upcoming November elections.

KAMALA HARRIS REACTS TO DONALD TRUMP

Speaking to members of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. — one of the “Divine Nine” historically Black fraternities and sororities — in Houston, Harris said, “When I look out at everyone here, I see family.”

In her address, Harris briefly responded to Trump’s comments, labeling them as “the same old show: the divisiveness and the disrespect.”

She continued, “And let me just say, the American people deserve better. The American people deserve better.”

Harris emphasized, “Our differences do not divide us; they are an essential source of our strength.”

Referring to Trump’s combative tone during his NABJ convention interview, she remarked, “The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth, a leader who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts.”
