The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of a beloved figure today. Michigan rapper Xzibit announced the passing of iconic West Coast MC Saafir The Saucee Nomad through a heartfelt Instagram post, sharing the news with fans and fellow artists just hours ago.
“I can’t believe I’m writing this right now, but don’t know what else to do at the moment,” Xzibit began. “Approximately at 8:45 this morning, my brother Reggie, known to the world as Saafir, passed away. We have so much history, I can’t even explain what I’m feeling right now. We surrounded him and let him know how much we loved him. He can rest now.”
XZIBIT CALLS FOR SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE HIP HOP WORLD
Xzibit also called on the hip-hop community to support Saafir’s family during this difficult time. “Friends, family, everyone that rocked with us from the hip-hop community, if you could be so solid and reach out to @chopblack, his younger brother, and @lilsaafir, his son, the family really needs to be supported during this time. That’s all I have right now. My soul is crushed. We love you, bro.”
Saafir was 54 years old. As of now, the cause of his death has not been disclosed.

For those unfamiliar with his legacy, Saafir was a prominent figure in the underground hip-hop scene. He released his debut album, *Boxcar Sessions*, in 1994, earning critical acclaim for his unique style and lyricism. He was perhaps best known for his affiliations with two influential rap groups: Hobo Junction and the Golden State Project. The latter was a collective featuring Saafir, Xzibit, and Ras Kass, whose collaborations left a lasting impact on the West Coast hip-hop sound.
Beyond music, Saafir showcased his versatility by appearing in the cult-classic film “Menace II Society,” further cementing his place in hip-hop and entertainment culture.
Fans and peers have flooded Xzibit’s post with messages of love and support. Among them, Royce da 5’9″ simply expressed his grief with a single emoji: “🤦🏿♂️.”
Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Saafir’s family, friends, and the hip-hop community. His contributions to the culture will not be forgotten.
