Wendy Williams Asks For Help With Note After Escorted To Hospital

Wendy Williams was taken to the hospital following an unexpected welfare check by authorities.

On Monday, March 10, the New York Police Department responded to a call at Williams’ assisted living facility, a spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE. She was then escorted out of the building and transported by EMS to a local hospital for evaluation.

According to The New York Post, the 60-year-old former talk show host reportedly dropped a note out of her window earlier that morning, allegedly reading: “Help! Wendy!!”

WILLIAMS BEEN UNDER LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP

Williams has been under legal guardianship since May 2022, with court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrissey managing her finances and healthcare. In recent months, Williams has been fighting to regain control, disputing claims that she is “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated.”

“I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” Williams stated during an interview on The Breakfast Club in January. She described her living conditions, saying she was surrounded by elderly residents and unable to move freely. “These people—there’s something wrong with these people here on this floor. I am clearly not [like them].”

She also expressed frustration over locked elevators, visitor restrictions, and a lack of transparency regarding her medication.

NEW MEDICAL EVALUATION

Following her public statements, Morrissey reportedly requested a “new medical evaluation,” according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In the February TubiTV documentary TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy Williams, Williams revealed that she couldn’t recall the last time she had seen a doctor after her 2023 dementia diagnosis.

“[It has been] a long while,” she admitted, saying she couldn’t even estimate a time frame. “I was in Connecticut for a year and didn’t see anybody. I’ve been in here for six or seven months and haven’t seen anybody.”

WILLIAMS STATED HAVING NO FREEDOM

Later that month, Williams provided another update during an appearance on NewsNation’s Banfield.

“Well, I don’t have the freedom to do virtually anything,” she said. “As far as where I am, I’m on the fifth floor. They call it ‘the memory unit,’ so it’s for people who don’t remember anything.”

She described the experience as “suffocating,” noting that she had met fellow residents but remained deeply unhappy with her situation.

Williams’ hospitalization adds another layer to her ongoing battle for independence, as questions continue to surround her health, guardianship, and well-being.
