Wayans Family to Be Inducted into NAACP Image Awards’ Hall of Fame

The Wayans family, known for their impact on film, television, and comedy, will be honored at this year’s NAACP Image Awards. Their contributions have not only entertained audiences for decades but have also created numerous opportunities in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera.

Keenen Ivory Wayans, Damon Wayans Sr., Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Kim Wayans, and Damon Wayans Jr. will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards’ Hall of Fame, as announced by the organization on Thursday VIA Deadline.

The Wayans’ extensive body of work includes the groundbreaking sketch comedy series In Living Color, created by Keenen Ivory Wayans in 1990. Damon Wayans Sr. also starred in the 1995 comedy Major Payne. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed the 2000 horror parody Scary Movie, which was written by Marlon and Shawn Wayans. The brothers later collaborated on the 2004 comedy White Chicks, writing and starring in the film.

THE WAYANS DYNASTY

Currently, Damon Wayans Sr. and his son, Damon Wayans Jr., co-star in the CBS sitcom Poppa’s House. Damon Wayans Jr. has also earned critical acclaim for his roles in hit comedies like Happy Endings and New Girl. Meanwhile, Kim Wayans has made her mark not only as a comedian and actor but also as a director, receiving praise for her performance in the 2011 drama Pariah.

At this year’s NAACP Image Awards, Poppa’s House is nominated, along with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. for their performances. Marlon Wayans has also received a nomination for his guest role in Peacock’s Bel-Air.

NAACP IMAGE AWARDS

The NAACP Image Awards celebrate excellence in acting, music, and writing among people of color. The Hall of Fame induction is a prestigious honor, with past recipients including Lena Horne, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Oprah Winfrey, and Spike Lee.

The 56th NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast live on BET and CBS from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on February 22.
