Vybz Kartel to Make First American Concert in Two Decades
After regaining his visa, dancehall icon Vybz Kartel is set to electrify Brooklyn with a highly anticipated performance.
Few artists have orchestrated a comeback as powerfully as Vybz Kartel. Following the overturning of his 2014 murder conviction due to juror misconduct, the dancehall legend walked free after 13 years behind bars. His return has been met with widespread celebration, resonating from his homeland of Jamaica to fans across London. The excitement was on full display when he took the stage at the Freedom Street Concert on New Year’s Eve.
Now, with his U.S. visa reinstated, Kartel is making waves internationally. His stateside return was solidified with an appearance at this year’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, where his album Party With Me was nominated for Best Reggae Album. While he didn’t perform during the ceremony, fans won’t have to wait much longer. On April 11, 2025, Vybz Kartel will headline his first U.S. show in over 20 years.
Brooklyn Show to Mark a Historic Moment
Presented by Reggae Fest, Kartel will take the stage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 11, 2025. Tickets go on sale Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET.
“This is a monumental moment for me and for dancehall culture,” Kartel said in a statement. “Being back in the U.S. and performing for my fans is a blessing I don’t take lightly. The wait is finally over. New York, get ready.”
A Landmark Year Ahead
Kartel’s return to the stage is a milestone that many thought might never happen, but the dancehall star has been steadily reclaiming his place in the global music scene. His Barclays Center performance is just one of several high-profile shows scheduled for 2025. He is also set to appear as a special guest alongside Burna Boy at the Wireless Festival, where Drake will headline across all three nights.
Beyond his live performances, Kartel recently received the Impact Award at the UK’s MOBO Awards, presented by longtime collaborator and friend Spice. He captivated the audience with performances of his classics “Fever” and “Clarks,” giving fans a taste of what’s to come. In addition to his stage presence, Kartel remains as prolific as ever in the studio, releasing new tracks such as “Amout,” “Str8 Vybz,” and “God Is The Greatest,” along with the 10-year anniversary edition of Viking (Vybz Is King).
Presale tickets for the Barclays Center concert became available on March 4, 2025, at 10 a.m. ET. General admission sales will follow on March 6, 2025. For more details, visit the official ticketing website.
