Since his release from prison in July 2024, Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel has been actively re-engaging with his music career and focusing on his personal well-being. He is now afforded travel to the United States after receiving his visa.

The Dancehall star was aiming to secure a US visa to attend the upcoming 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 5.

His eight-track EP Party With Me is nominated for Best Reggae Album, marking his first-ever Grammy nomination. Vybz Kartel jumped on social media and announced he officially has been given his visa.

Music Releases and Performances

Within a day of his release, Kartel launched a 12-track project titled First Week Out, featuring collaborations with artist Squash.

He also announced a major New Year’s Eve concert at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, marking his first live performance since his release. The event was anticipated to be a grand spectacle, likened to a “Super Bowl halftime show 2.0.”

Health and Personal Life

Post-release, Kartel has prioritized his health, particularly addressing his battle with Graves’ Disease, an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid. He has adopted a rigorous fitness regimen, incorporating equipment like a bike and treadmill to improve his well-being.

In his personal life, Kartel is engaged to Sidem Ozturk, a British social worker. The couple began communicating in 2015, and Ozturk moved to Jamaica in 2019 to be closer to him. In 2020, the UK Privy Council, Jamaica’s final court of appeal, granted Kartel and his co-defendants permission to challenge their convictions. The appeal centers on claims that the trial was unfair due to allegations of jury tampering and the handling of evidence. A ruling on the appeal is still pending as of October 2023.They became engaged during an authorized prison visit in 2022.

Vybz Kartel’s post-release journey reflects a renewed dedication to his music and personal health, as he reestablishes his presence in the dancehall scene.
