Vince McMahon Criticizes Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’ Docuseries

Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon has expressed his displeasure with Netflix’s upcoming docuseries about his life, stating that it fails to accurately capture the real story.

In a statement shared on his social media accounts on Monday, McMahon revealed that he had viewed an “early partial cut” of the series and was disappointed by the portrayal. “Based on what I’ve seen so far, this doc falls short and takes the predictable path of conflating the ‘Mr. McMahon’ character with my true self, Vince. The title and promos alone make that evident,” he said.

The Netflix docuseries, set to premiere on Wednesday, chronicles McMahon’s journey in transforming his father’s regional wrestling promotion into a worldwide entertainment empire. However, it also delves into the more controversial aspects of his career, such as the steroid abuse scandal of the 1990s and the recent allegations of sexual misconduct that led to his resignation.

VINCE MCMAHON STATEMENT

Vince McMahon criticized the way the docuseries was edited, stating, “A lot has been misrepresented or left out entirely in an effort to leave viewers intentionally confused. The producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage and dated soundbites to distort the viewers’ perception and support a deceptive narrative.” He also pointed out that the series used a lawsuit from a past affair as evidence of him being the ‘Mr. McMahon’ persona, which he feels is misleading.

Despite his criticisms, McMahon noted, “I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had the opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, which were equally filled with excitement, drama, fun, and a fair amount of controversy and life lessons.”

He concluded by encouraging viewers to approach the series with an open mind, saying, “I hope the viewer will keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.”
