SZA Surpasses Michael Jackson’s Billboard 200 Record

SZA’s SOS has been a dominant force on the Billboard charts since its release in December 2022, and now it has set a historic milestone.

This week, both TDE’s Punch and Top Dawg took to social media to celebrate SZA’s achievement after SOS became the longest-running top 10 album by a Black artist in Billboard 200 history. The previous record holder was Michael Jackson’s legendary Thriller album.

Top Dawg shared his excitement on Instagram, writing, “Our queen @sza surpass the king of pop.” Meanwhile, Punch expressed his amazement on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “SMH. Man. This is crazy. @sza you’re the illest. The best. We’ve had this conversation and you didn’t believe me when I told you you were the one. You’re literally the one. Shout out to the King!”

SZA’s SOS Continues to Make Waves

Released as her second studio album, SOS features collaborations with Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, Travis Scott, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In addition to its record-breaking chart performance, the album received nine Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, and won Best Progressive R&B Album.

Recently, SZA expanded SOS with a deluxe edition titled Lana, which includes 23 additional tracks and a guest appearance from Kendrick Lamar.

Following the success of Lana, SZA is gearing up for the Grand National Tour alongside Kendrick Lamar later this year. She has teased that fans can expect an over-the-top experience. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she revealed, “Oh, we’re doing a new thing. We’re both just kind of throwing all the paint at the wall… This is our first stadium show for both of us, so we pretty much have to go insane.”

The tour announcement comes after SZA and Lamar’s electrifying performance together at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. They also recently joined forces for the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Luther,” from Lamar’s album GNX.

With these milestones, SZA continues to solidify her place as one of the most influential artists of this generation.
