Swizz Beatz Calls Cap on DMX’s Uncle’s Claims About Funeral Costs
Looks like Swizz Beatz wasn’t feeling the story DMX’s uncle tried to tell.
Over the weekend, @therealswizzz jumped into the comments on @thejasminebrandmusic’s IG page to call cap on claims made by Ray Copeland, DMX’s former manager and uncle.

Copeland recently spoke with @allhiphopcom, saying he had to raise $150,000 to pay for X’s funeral after being allegedly turned down by some big industry names — including Swizz Beatz, Ruff Ryders, Steve Rifkind, and Def Jam.
“When it was time to bury X, I was on the phone with everybody — Ruff Ryders, Swizz Beatz, Steve Rifkind, Def Jam,” Copeland said. “Everybody said, ‘I ain’t got it.’ So I hung up the phone and said, ‘Forget it. I’ll put this together myself.’”
Copeland claimed that Germaine Miller and attorney Ron Sweeney helped him make it happen, and that Def Jam only pitched in $35,000 — despite, according to him, telling the media they covered the full cost.
“They told the media they paid for the funeral. That’s not true,” he added. “Kanye West took care of everything at the Barclays Center.”
But Swizz wasn’t letting that slide. Without a long post or statement, the super-producer simply commented “Cap” — and that was enough. Fans immediately took notice, flooding the comments with support for Swizz and calling out Copeland for possibly twisting the story.
💬 Fans React
Social media was quick to take sides. Many fans pointed out that Swizz has always been one of DMX’s most loyal friends, keeping his legacy alive through tributes, unreleased music, and foundation work.
Others questioned why Copeland would bring this up years later, calling the interview “messy” and “unnecessary.” A few commenters, however, said they wished Swizz would address it in more detail to clear up the rumors once and for all.
Regardless, it’s clear emotions still run deep when it comes to DMX’s legacy — and fans want to make sure the truth about how he was honored stays intact.
