Social Media Debates Tupac & Drake Comparisons
Drake and Tupac Shakur are two of the most influential and iconic figures during their time periods of hip-hop, but they represent different eras, styles, and impacts on the genre.
The Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef has caused a debate over if Tupac and Drake are the same type of artists. It is a talking point since Tupac was not born and raised in Los Angeles similar to Kendrick Lamar, but the LA rapper defending Tupac.
The Tupac Shakur estate issued a cease-and-desist letter to Drake, demanding the removal of his Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Taylor Made Freestyle,” due to its alleged use of unauthorized AI-generated versions of Tupac’s and Snoop Dogg’s voices.
According to the letter penned by lawyer Howard King and obtained by World
Music Views, the estate considers the utilization of AI Tupac’s voice as a blatant infringement on Tupac’s publicity rights and the estate’s legal rights. Stating,“The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality. Not only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time.”

Drake has let it be known that is a huge fan of Tupac in the past. During a 2011 interview with The Boombox, the rapper claimed that he aspired to be more like ‘Pac in his own life. “He was somebody who was a free spirit and he did not care,” he opined. “He just did what he felt. I wish I could have a little more ‘Pac to my persona. I’m working on it.” Things have obviously taken a different turn for the 6 God in the intervening years.

Many critical of Tupac’s street life bring up the fact he was not born on the West Coast, but in the birthplace of hip-hop. Born in New York City, Tupac moved to Baltimore and later to California. His upbringing was marked by activism, as his mother was a member of the Black Panther Party.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Drake initially gained fame as an actor on the TV show “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” This is the biggest comparison of all due to Tupac’s biggest break came in the role of Bishop in Juice. It is well documented that Shakur attended the Baltimore school of the arts where he became close friends with another Hollywood actor in Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Tupac Shakur’s acting catalog is much more intense as he has worked with the likes of Janet Jackson, Samuel Jackson, and Tim Roth to name a few. Drake is more known for his music as he only has Degrassi on his resume for acting.
Rapper Logic once explained his reasoning for why there are comparisons between Drake and Tupac. He says Shakur and Drake both rapped about women, but two separate artists in their own lane.
Goat recognize Goat. Simple as that.

Pac is considered a rap pioneer for the blending of social consciousness with gangsta rap, and his music often addressed systemic issues and personal pain. Drake is known in the modern era for helping the genre be mainstream with the fusion of rap and R&B, and his introspective style has influenced a new wave of artists.
JOE BUDDEN ON TUPAC
Joe Budden has been quite vocal in choosing Kendrick Lamar over Drake in their beef. A criticism Tupac gets by some people was he played the character of Bishop in his life after the release of the movie Juice in 1992. Joe Budden defended Tupac against Outkast manager Michael “Blue” Williams, who believed Tupac was overrated due to the image that he crafted. Budden reacted by stating Tupac was great at marketing himself and delivering music that resonated with the people.
Eminem is an artist that is considered to be one of the greatest to ever do it. He has proclaimed Tupac Shakur to be the greatest songwriter of all time.
This topic has resurfaced online after an X account appears to be driven to show Kendrick Lamar being a hypocrite with his beef with Drake. The user believes Kendrick is beefing with someone that is similar to Tupac Shakur, but others have taken to the account to show how the two artists are their own entities.
Crazy this whole shit heated up over Tupac’s ring. Kendrick wanted the ring of an east coast born rapper who came up very similar to Drake. Whole time he calling Drake an actor and a pussy 😅

He is right… at least i think thats how drake thinks lol. He probably always compared his self to Tupac off of one dimensional thoughts and what he assumed to be “just like me”. Drake proved to not be introspective unless we talking about experiences with women.

So your mad at Drake for acting but not mad at Pac for acting? That’s hypocrisy is, no matter how you slice it.

Tupac changed due to trauma & struggle. Not for a movie. He experienced trauma. We all code switch. The core of Pac was unresolved anger for this corrupt system his mother taught him about. Pac faced the same adversity every black man experience. https://t.co/5rShvn1xG7

Do not agree. Tupac code switches depending on the audience and those around him. It’s perfectly normal when you live an extraordinary or diverse life. You’re speaking about a son of a black panther and related to militant ones at that. https://t.co/E8eaQdv7LX
