Shyne Documentary Reflects On Politician’s Rap Shooting Incident
Shyne continues to claim that he was unfairly made the “fall guy” in the infamous 1999 nightclub shooting that led to him spending nearly a decade in prison. In the Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne, the former rapper states, “I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy. I spent ten years in prison, but I was able to move on. There’s a time to pivot, there’s a time to transition.”
Both Shyne and Diddy were initially arrested following the incident, but the Bad Boy Records founder was acquitted of all charges. The new documentary, set to premiere on Hulu on November 18, provides a deeper look at Shyne’s journey. The documentary project promises to take “an intimate look at Shyne’s personal evolution as he navigates fame, incarceration, and a return home to Belize, where he discovers new purpose and strives to lead his country toward a brighter future.”

The documentary’s release coincides with Diddy’s current legal troubles, as he remains in custody in Brooklyn, facing charges of alleged sex trafficking and racketeering. He has pleaded not guilty to these accusations. Shyne previously addressed his former collaborator’s arrest during a press conference last month. “This is someone who, in essence, testified against me when I was on trial. I was an 18-year-old kid just trying to make my mother and Belize proud,” Shyne remarked. “I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He played a part in sending me to prison.”

Shyne was born in Belize but moved to Brooklyn, New York, at a young age. Growing up in a rough environment, he developed a passion for rap music and eventually caught the attention of industry insiders. His style drew comparisons to The Notorious B.I.G. due to his deep voice and gritty street lyrics. He was signed by Sean “Diddy” Combs to Bad Boy Records in the late 1990s.
