Shawniece Hall Interview: How Writing Saved Her & Inspired Flames
“Writing Saved Me”: Shawniece Hall on Turning Pain Into Purpose Through Flames
From the heart of Providence, Rhode Island, Shawniece Hall is proving that resilience, imagination, and persistence can transform pain into purpose.
In her exclusive conversation with WorldWide Entertainment TV, Shawniece opens up about growing up homeless, finding refuge in books, and discovering her voice through writing. What began as an escape quickly became a lifeline—one that allowed her to process emotions, reclaim power, and eventually share stories that resonate deeply with readers.
“Writing gave me a voice, an escape, and a way to create,” Shawniece explains. “It’s therapeutic—whether you’re writing fiction, poetry, or even journaling.”
When Characters Take Control
Shawniece’s debut novel, Flames, may be fiction, but its emotional truth feels unmistakably real. The story follows Aaliyah, a woman who grew up without love and learned to guard her heart—until she meets Liam, whose past threatens everything they’re building.
Interestingly, Shawniece reveals she didn’t set out to tell Aaliyah’s story.
“When you’re really writing,” she says, “your characters take over. Aaliyah decided how her story was going to be told.”
Psychology Meets Storytelling
With a degree in General Psychology, Shawniece brings depth to her characters by looking beneath the surface—exploring why people behave the way they do and how their experiences shape them. This layered approach is why readers often say Flames feels less like fiction and more like real life unfolding on the page.

Defining Success on Her Own Terms
While society often measures success through money or status, Shawniece defines it differently.
“To me, success is setting goals and executing them,” she says. “It’s about contentment and happiness—not external validation.”
