Scary Movie Returns With The Wayans Brothers In 2025
The Wayans brothers are officially making their comedic comeback with a reboot of Scary Movie, nearly two decades after their last installment. Announced at CinemaCon and confirmed by Marlon Wayans on social media, the reboot will feature a brand-new screenplay written by Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, marking the trio’s first collaboration on the franchise since the early 2000s. The original Scary Movie series, which parodied horror classics like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, became a massive hit, grossing over $896 million globally across five films.
Miramax Motion Picture Group President Jonathan Glickman shared his enthusiasm, praising the Wayans as “brilliant creators” and saying their humor aligns perfectly with today’s audiences. “The timing is ideal to bring back the series, and we’re excited to work with Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn,” he said.
TO START PRODUCTION IN 2025
Production for the new Scary Movie is scheduled to start next year, with a theatrical release planned. This reboot reunites the franchise’s original creators, with Keenen Ivory Wayans overseeing writing and production duties alongside Rick Alvarez, a frequent collaborator known for films like Fifty Shades of Black and Sextuplets.
Reflecting on the reboot, the Wayans brothers commented, “This is a franchise we started over 20 years ago. We remember the laughs from the audiences back then, and we can’t wait to see that again. It’s a special reunion—working together as brothers and reviving Scary Movie with the new Miramax team.”
Released in 2000, the first Scary Movie became one of the top-grossing R-rated horror comedies, with a $42.5 million opening weekend. Through a first-look deal with Miramax, Paramount Pictures will distribute the reboot worldwide.
Beyond Scary Movie, Marlon Wayans is set to star in Justin Tipping’s upcoming psychological thriller HIM, produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, scheduled for release in September 2025. Marlon is also touring nationwide with his Wild Child comedy show, bringing his signature humor to audiences across the country.
