Targeted Shooting Outside Burlington Centre Mall Leaves Rapper Lil OT Dead at 24

A 24-year-old man has died following a late-night shooting outside the Burlington Centre mall on Monday, an incident police say was targeted.

Halton Regional Police confirmed Tuesday morning that the victim was Omer Niaz Muhammad, also known in the music community as rapper Lil OT. Officers were called to the mall parking lot near the Kelsey’s restaurant, close to Fairview Street and Guelph Line, at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Monday night. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead as reported by CHCH News.

Police stated they believe the shooting was not random and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

“We do believe that this was a targeted incident,” said Cst. Jeff Dillon during a Tuesday news conference.

Investigators say two suspects fled the scene in a white SUV. As of publication, no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dashcam, doorbell, or security footage—particularly along Fairview Street, Guelph Line, and surrounding roads—to come forward.

According to reporting by the Hamilton Spectator, Muhammad had previously survived a 2023 drive-by shooting at his family’s home in Hamilton, adding another tragic layer to the circumstances surrounding his death.

Monday night’s killing marks the first homicide of the year in Halton Region. Police say the investigation remains active and further updates will be released as new information becomes available.
