Paige Reese Whitaker Appointed Judge To Young Thug’s Trial
Young Thug Trial: New Judge Appointed After Two Recusals.
Earlier this month, the trial saw another twist when Judge Ural Glanville was recused following a motion filed by Young Thug‘s lawyer, Brian Steel. The motion cited a contentious ex-parte meeting involving Glanville, the prosecution, and key witness Kenneth Copeland.
A new judge, Shukura L. Ingram, was quickly appointed but recused herself just days later. In her filing, Judge Ingram revealed that her deputy had an inappropriate relationship with Young Thug’s co-defendant Big Bhris and allegedly attempted to smuggle contraband into jail for him. This raised concerns about the court’s impartiality.
Judge Paige Reese Whitaker Takes Over Young Thug’s Trial
Fortunately, the process of appointing another judge was swift, and Judge Paige Reese Whitaker has now taken over the case. Whitaker, a former Fulton County prosecutor and a member of the state Attorney General’s Office, has been a Fulton County judge since 2017. It remains to be seen if Young Thug will fare better this time, though the prolonged trial, which began in November last year, continues to drag on with no end in sight. Proceedings were halted while Steel’s motion for recusal was reviewed, adding further delays for the incarcerated rapper.

Despite the setbacks, Young Thug and his lawyer seem relieved by the recent developments. Following Glanville’s recusal, Steel issued a strong statement emphasizing their demand for a “speedy,” “fair,” and “impartial” trial.
What are your thoughts on the appointment of yet another new judge in Young Thug’s RICO case?
