Omega Mighty Awes Toronto Life’s Most Influential Party
Toronto-born artist Omega Mighty is blazing a unique path in her city’s music scene, where she’s crafting a distinctive blend of reggae fusion, pop, and hip-hop. Selected as one of 30 artists for the RBCxMusic’s First Up program, powered by MusiCounts, Omega is part of a Canada-wide initiative that supports emerging artists by offering them tools and platforms to amplify their voices. This opportunity is helping her broaden her audience, sharing messages of empowerment and individuality on a larger scale.
WorldWide Entertainment TV Media was on had for her performance at Toronto Life’s Most Influential party.
In an interview with Toronto Life she revealed, “My dad’s Jamaican, my mom’s from Barbados, so my roots were always present. But being in Toronto allowed me to go deeper and connect with other cultural communities, encouraging me to make music that’s authentic—even if it’s not mainstream yet. My goal is to bring this sound into the mainstream and make it resonate widely.”
Omega speaks on her sister saying, “Haviah has always been a key collaborator—we’re sisters, and music has always been part of our bond. Our parents instilled a strong sense of family support, and I’m one of five siblings, all with unique musical styles. My oldest sister composes classical music, another is a pianist, Haviah and my brother are in hip-hop, and I’m in the Caribbean and reggae space. We’re united by a love for music in all its forms. Being supportive of each other’s work lets us explore our own styles freely while coming together for collaborations. It’s really rooted in the way we were raised.”
THE MIGHTY SISTERS
The Mighty sisters, Omega and Haviah, live up to their name, each carving a formidable space in Canada’s music scene. Although they have individual projects, they sometimes collaborate, creating powerful moments in Canadian music. In 2019, Haviah became the first Black woman and hip-hop artist to win the Polaris Prize for her debut album *13th Floor* and went on to win a Juno for her mixtape *Stock Exchange*. This year, she completed a European tour and returned to Canada to co-host and perform at Billboard Canada’s first Women in Music event.
Omega’s journey has been equally dynamic. She began training in classical piano at four and dance at nine, building a solid foundation for her music career. This year, she earned a Juno nomination for “Rush Dem,” the lead single from her popular sophomore EP *Notorious & Noble*, and made CBC Music’s 2024 Searchlight top 10 list with her vibrant track “Badgirl Workout.” The sisters often highlight their early years in Brampton, which they moved to from Toronto. Omega even penned an anthem, “Celebrate You,” for Brampton’s 50th anniversary, performing it at the city’s birthday celebration in June. Together, they’re shaping the future of Canadian music while proudly representing their roots.
