Nicki Minaj Says She’s Still Just A Trinidadian Citizen Only

Nicki Minaj speaks on her US Status.

Nicki Minaj recently shared her frustration about not having U.S. citizenship, despite having lived in the country since childhood and paying millions in taxes. Speaking on TikTok Live, the rapper explained that despite her contributions to the U.S. economy, she still hasn’t been granted citizenship.

“I’m not a citizen of America. Isn’t that crazy?” she said. “I was born on a beautiful island called Trinidad and Tobago. But I’ve been in the States for many years. You’d think that with the millions of dollars I’ve paid in taxes to this country, I would’ve been given honorary citizenship thousands of years ago.”

NICKI MINAJ REFLECTS ON HER MOVE TO UNITED STATES

This isn’t the first time Minaj has opened up about her immigration journey. In 2018, she reflected on her experience coming to the U.S. as an undocumented immigrant during a discussion about immigration policies under the Trump administration. “I came to this country as an illegal immigrant at 5 years old,” she shared on Instagram. “I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place and having my parents taken away at such a young age. It’s terrifying. Please stop this. Try to imagine the fear and panic these children feel, not knowing if they’ll see their parents again.”

Minaj continues to speak out about her experience as an immigrant, raising awareness about issues affecting those in similar situations.
