NBA YoungBoy Sentenced in Federal Gun Case After Plea Deal

NBA YoungBoy has been sentenced following a plea deal in his federal gun case, which was transferred from Louisiana to Utah. The rapper faced months of detention after his April arrest, but now his legal battle has reached a resolution. According to celebrity attorney Bradford Cohen, NBA YoungBoy received a 27-month prison sentence. However, with credit for time already served, Cohen expects the rapper will be released much sooner.

“Being right is a bad habit of mine,” Cohen shared on Instagram. “Global plea: 27 months… with time served, he’ll probably be out in 12 months. The lawyer did a great job resolving the case successfully.”

Cohen’s post also noted that YoungBoy will be on probation for five years. Cohen, who also represents Kodak Black, had previously predicted the sentence, arguing that the federal case had significant weaknesses and that the Utah charges were problematic.

NBA YOUNGBOY PLEADS GUILTY

NBA YoungBoy pleaded guilty on August 14 to illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. His legal troubles began when he was one of 16 individuals arrested during a music video shoot in Louisiana in 2020. In 2021, he was indicted on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of an unregistered firearm.

While the unregistered firearm charge was dismissed in March, new issues arose in April when Utah authorities charged him with prescription drug fraud. Cache County officials accused YoungBoy of unlawfully obtaining promethazine with codeine from local pharmacies.

In May, Weber County added further charges, including possession of a firearm by a restricted person and two counts of fraudulently obtaining a prescription. Then in August, federal authorities hit NBA YoungBoy with an additional gun charge.

NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, has 12 children. His children are with multiple mothers, and he has often shared aspects of his family life in his music and social media. His large family and fatherhood at a young age have been recurring themes in his personal and public life.
