Tragedy struck during a listening party hosted by Mello Buckzz in Chicago for her new project, “Hollyhood,” resulting in multiple casualties.

The artist took to Instagram to share a heartfelt reflection on the devastating incident that occurred earlier this month. During the event, four individuals lost their lives, and 15 others were injured, including her boyfriend, who was among those who passed away.

“Last week, I hosted a listening party in downtown Chicago for a project I’ve been dedicated to for three years—my debut body of work crafted through blood, sweat, and tears,” she wrote. “What was meant to be a joyful and peaceful night turned into heartbreak. As the event was winding down, a mass shooting erupted, claiming four lives and injuring 15 others. Most of the victims were women—people who came out to support and show love. These weren’t strangers; they were friends, family, fellow creatives, loved ones, and people who’ve stood by me throughout this journey. What happened was senseless. No one should have to experience such violence, especially innocent people, many of whom were women.”

Mello Buckzz continued: “While we may never fully understand what was going through anyone’s mind or what their intentions were, I carry a heavy heart knowing so many lives have been impacted. I mourn those we lost, pray for the healing of those physically and emotionally wounded, and hope that the spirits of those affected can find peace. This moment has changed many of us forever. I will honor those we’ve lost, support those who are healing, and do everything I can to keep their memories alive. Please continue to pray for the families and our community as we try to make sense of this tragedy.”

The shooting occurred after Mello Buckzz’s mixtape release event, when an SUV opened fire into the crowd leaving the venue. Authorities are actively investigating, but no arrests have been made yet.

The day after the incident, Mello Buckzz shared a series of pictures and videos on her Instagram Story, featuring moments with her boyfriend. She captioned one video, “We was having so much fun in our private little life,” expressing her grief. “Couldn’t leave each other alone. Glued to my hip every day. Not a night we didn’t spend together. I’m so f*cking angry… you were woke, I held your hand until I couldn’t anymore. You talked to me clearly, I don’t get it, boo. I’m devastated.”
