Lisa Marie-Presley Memoir Addresses Michael Jackson Abuse Allegations

Lisa Marie Presley once revealed that Michael Jackson told her he was “still a virgin” when they began dating.

Presley, who passed away in January 2023, left behind hours of recorded conversations, which her daughter Riley Keough has turned into a memoir titled From Here to the Great Unknown, set to be released on Tuesday.

At the time of their whirlwind wedding in the Dominican Republic on May 26, 1994, Presley was 26, and Jackson was 35. Their marriage came just 20 days after her divorce from musician Danny Keough.

MICHAEL JACKSON WAS STILL A VIRGIN WHEN HE DATED LISA MARIE PRESLEY

“He told me he was still a virgin,” Presley shared in the memoir. She recalled that Jackson mentioned having kissed Tatum O’Neal and being involved with Brooke Shields, although those relationships had not been physical. He also claimed that Madonna had attempted to initiate something with him, but nothing happened.

“I was terrified because I didn’t want to make the wrong move,” Presley admitted. She described how Jackson took the lead when they first kissed, surprising her by initiating their physical relationship sooner than she expected. “I thought we might wait until we were married, but he said, ‘I’m not waiting!’”

Reflecting on their romance, Presley said, “I was actually so happy. I’ve never been that happy again.”

Although their first meeting occurred when Presley was just six years old—when Jackson was performing with his brothers in Las Vegas—she didn’t recall much of that encounter. They reconnected in 1993 when Jackson, interested in hearing her demo tape, reached out. From there, they “just clicked.”

MICHAEL JACKSON NEEDED A FRIEND

“I thought he was lonely and needed a friend, but he was pursuing me,” she revealed. Jackson confessed to being heartbroken when he found out she had married Danny Keough, feeling that she should have been with him instead.

Riley wrote in the memoir that her family affectionately referred to Jackson as “Mimi” because her brother, Benjamin Keough, couldn’t pronounce his name. Interestingly, Jackson was the only person Presley didn’t ask to sign the non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) she typically required from people entering her home.

Presley didn’t inform her mother, Priscilla Presley, about the wedding. She described Jackson as an “amazing conversationalist” and said there was something truly remarkable about him, something she had only ever felt with her father, Elvis Presley. She added, “I fell in love with him because he was normal—just f—king normal. That was a side of him no one else saw.”

MICHAEL JACKSON OPENED UP TO LISA MARIE PRESLEY

Jackson’s family, including his mother and sister Janet, were surprised by how much he opened up to Presley, as he rarely discussed personal matters with anyone else. Despite his ability to control his surroundings and dictate how others treated him, Presley felt she could be herself around him.

Michael Jackson even moved into their Hidden Hills home in Los Angeles, often bringing a chimpanzee with him when he accompanied her children on school runs, though Presley clarified it was not Bubbles, Jackson’s famous pet chimp.

Jackson had a special connection with Presley and her children, often serenading them with songs like “Happy Birthday Lisa” from The Simpsons, “Ben” for her son Benjamin, and “You Are Not Alone” for Riley.

CHILD MOLESTATION ALLEGATIONS

Presley revealed that Jackson sought her advice when facing child molestation allegations in 1993, and she urged him to settle quickly. She emphatically stated, “As for child molestation, I never saw a goddamn thing like that. I personally would have killed him if I had.”

Presley did an interview with Diane Sawyer in 1995 to defend Jackson, claiming she did it to protect him. This led to her being sued by Jordan Chandler’s father, Evan, but she won the case.

She was with Jackson during the recording of his HIStory album, but as time went on, she noticed changes in him, particularly signs of drug use. She recognized similar behaviors from her own father, who died of a drug overdose in 1977.

THE KISS AT MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

Presley began to suspect Jackson might be using her for publicity, especially after their high-profile kiss at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards. He started disappearing for days at a time, leaving her in the dark. She eventually learned from a family member that Jackson had developed a pill addiction. One relative even asked her to collect a urine sample to test for drugs.

By then, Jackson had staged a fall and was staying in a New York City hospital, complete with his own anesthesiologist. When Presley confronted him about his behavior, he lashed out, and she offered to help him seek treatment. The doctor overseeing Jackson allegedly threatened her for asking too many questions.

Feeling isolated and unsure of what was happening, Presley left Jackson in New York and returned to California. Soon after, she filed for divorce in December 1995, finalizing it in August 1996.

A REKINDLED ROMANCE

However, their relationship didn’t end there. Riley revealed that Presley continued to visit Jackson’s Neverland Ranch and occasionally rekindled their romance. Jackson had expressed a strong desire for them to have children together, but Presley resisted, knowing their relationship had become increasingly toxic.

“I knew he would use me and then discard me,” she said. “He was very controlling and calculating.” At one point, she told him, “You’re like a snake—I don’t know what you’re going to crawl out from under next.”

LAST TIME SEEING EACH OTHER

Their final interaction occurred in 1997 when Presley and her children traveled to South Africa to watch Jackson perform. Years later, Jackson called Presley again, sounding incoherent and paranoid, telling her, “You were right—everyone around me wants to kill me.” It was the last time they spoke.

Lisa Marie was in London when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, from cardiac arrest due to propofol intoxication. She stayed with his coffin for hours after his funeral. Riley added, “My mother said she communicated with Michael through her dreams for months after he died.”
