Lil Wayne Speaks On Not Performing At Super Bowl Half Time Show
On Friday (Sept. 13), Lil Wayne finally spoke out about the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, where Kendrick Lamar has been selected as the headliner. When the news first broke, many fans and even some of Wayne’s close friends and collaborators felt that the Young Money boss should have been chosen for the big event, especially since the February 2025 show will take place in his hometown of New Orleans, LA.
“First of all, I want to say forgive me for the delay. I had to gather the strength to do this without breaking,” Wayne shared in a video posted on Instagram. “I want to thank everyone for their opinions, voices, care, love, and support. Your words became arms that held me up when I wanted to fall back. That really hurt. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a lot.”
The “Lollipop” rapper continued, “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for the disappointment, for automatically assuming I’d be in that position as if someone told me it was mine. So, I take responsibility for that. But I thought there was no greater stage, no better platform than that, especially in my city. So yeah, it hurt a lot. But you all are amazing. It made me feel awful not getting this opportunity, and when I felt that way, you all reminded me that I’m nothing without you.”
He ended the video by expressing his deep gratitude to his fans and loved ones for their unwavering support, adding, “I’m working on me, and I’m working.”
