Creating the Young Money music label in 2005, Lil Wayne has fostered the two most influential artists in the hip-hop and pop music scene in the last decade. Drake has released several multi-platinum albums and singles under Young Money, including “Take Care,” “Nothing Was the Same,” and “Scorpion.”

Nicki Minaj is known for her distinctive style and versatility, Nicki Minaj has become a global superstar with hits like “Super Bass,” “Anaconda,” and “Starships.” In an interview with “All The Smoke” podcast, Lil Wayne details how he met the two rap icons.

WANTED A NEW YORK RAPPER THAT WAS FEMALE

Lil Wayne stated when he wanted to build his label, he wanted a female rapper coming from the birthplace of hip hop. He also wanted to make sure that hip hop artist did not sound like the legendary artists from the area such as Lil Kim or Foxy Brown. “When I heard Nicki, Nicki was sounding like me,” said the Cash Money Records rap legend.

Lil Wayne said she was “rare” and was impressed with the way she would switch up her voice and cadence on songs. He also believes Nicki Minaj to be the greatest female rapper of all-time.

Drake has gone on to have one of the most successful careers ever in the world of hip hop and Lil Wayne details how he first got into contact with the Toronto rapper. He was more impressed with Drake being able to both sing and rap. After being introduced to Drizzy through Jas Prince, Lil Wayne saw the marketing of having a singer and rapper. “That’s two albums,” he jokingly said about having the ability to create different songs with that talent.
