According to a police statement shared with the Associated Press, Payne allegedly “jumped from the balcony of his room.” The report highlights that authorities responded to an emergency call at approximately 5 PM local time, citing an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” The hotel manager reportedly told 911 that their guest was “overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol” and was “destroying the entire room.”
Just an hour before his death, Payne had shared a since-deleted Snapchat story with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, where he described having a “lovely day” and looked forward to their plans for horseback riding and polo. Cassidy teased about them sleeping in until 1 PM, with Payne playfully pushing back on the idea of being called “losers.” Payne posted a serene photo from the hotel, captioning it, “Happy I got some time away.”
