LeBron James’ Son Bronny Joins Lakers Via NBA Draft

Bronny James Selected by Lakers in Second Round of NBA Draft

King James’ dream has come true.

After much speculation, Bronny James’ future in the NBA has been decided. The son of LeBron James, a legendary figure in basketball, was a hot topic leading up to the NBA Draft. LeBron had openly expressed his desire to play alongside his son before retiring. On Thursday, June 27, that wish came true when Bronny James was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the NBA Draft, as reported by ESPN. The 19-year-old was the 55th pick.

The Lakers’ choice is historic, marking the first time in NBA history that a father and son will play in the league simultaneously. Additionally, they will be the first father-son duo to play on the same team. LeBron James has been advocating for Bronny’s acquisition since 2023, when he mentioned having one final item on his career bucket list. “I need to be on the floor with my boy,” he declared. “I got to be on the floor with Bronny.”

Bronny James and His Dad Make NBA History

LeBron James isn’t the only Lakers star who has praised Bronny James. Anthony Davis commended the young player’s skills in a pre-draft interview with ESPN. “He’s very good defensively,” Davis said. “He can read the floor very well. I think he’s a really good playmaker. I think he’s going to be fine, man. Obviously, it’s a lot of pressure on him with his dad being who he is.” Bronny himself has addressed this pressure, acknowledging that much of the attention he receives is due to his father’s fame. However, he is determined to prove his worth as an NBA player if given the chance.

Even before the draft, Bronny James faced numerous questions about playing with his dad. Despite this, he remained focused on his own development. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he emphasized that his primary concern was becoming a good player rather than playing alongside his father. “I would be happy about getting to the league instead of thinking about playing with my dad,” he said. “But that’s not my mindset at all. I’m just trying to put in the work and see where it takes me.”

It will be exciting to see how Bronny’s career unfolds from here.
