Kama Reveals the Truth Behind Toronto’s Street Beef, Smoke Dawg’s Death & Top5

Toronto Hip History With Toronto Street Rapper Kama

Toronto rapper Kama is pulling back the curtain on one of the most infamous chapters in the city’s music history. In an exclusive sit-down with
WorldWide Entertainment TV, he expands on Top5’s
recent No Jumper appearance and adds deeper context to
Brandon Buckingham’s War in Toronto documentary.

Kama explains that the Jane and Finch street conflict dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. According to him, the rivalry between the fathers of rappers Pressa and Smoke Dawg set off a chain of events that would tragically impact their children’s generation.

That generational tension ultimately led to the 2018 shooting death of Smoke Dawg, a rising Toronto rap star whose career was gaining international attention.

Kama also gives a raw perspective on Top5’s online antics — provocations that sparked a near-fatal incident in the UK and contributed to the incarceration of one of his close friends.

“People see the headlines, but they don’t see the history,” Kama says, stressing the importance of knowing the backstory to truly understand the present state of Toronto’s hip-hop scene.
