John Amos’ Kids in Legal Battle Over Estate: Lawsuit Alleges Elder Abuse & Fraud

John Amos Estate Battle: Daughter Sues Son for Elder Abuse and Wrongful Death

The family of late actor John Amos is embroiled in a legal battle. His daughter, Shannon Amos, has filed a lawsuit against her brother, Kelly Christopher Amos (K.C.), accusing him of elder abuse, fraud, and wrongful death. This legal action comes after the actor’s passing in August 2024.

According to the lawsuit, Shannon Amos alleges that K.C. Amos took advantage of their father’s declining health, manipulating him into signing over control of his estate. The legal filing claims that K.C. began to isolate his father from family and friends in 2019 and even impersonated him in communications. Shannon Amos’s legal team stated that this was a deliberate attempt to make John Amos completely dependent on his son for all personal and financial decisions. The lawsuit also names the actor’s former caretaker, Belinda Foster, and associate Eugene Brummett, accusing them of assisting in the alleged fraud.

SHANNON AMOS STATEMENT

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Shannon Amos said, “What K.C. Amos, Belinda Foster, and Eugene Brummett did in the last years of my father’s life is unfathomable, cruel, and beyond my comprehension.”

The actor, best known for his role on Good Times, was cremated shortly after his death. His cause of death was listed as congestive heart failure, and no autopsy was performed. Shannon Amos has not ruled out foul play.

The news of John Amos’s death was not made public until October 2024, two months after his passing. Shannon Amos claims she learned about her father’s death on social media. However, Foster’s statement alleges that John Amos wished to delay the announcement of his death, specifically to prevent his daughter from turning his death and burial into a “circus.”

This legal conflict follows a previous incident in June 2023, when Shannon Amos first publicly claimed her father was a victim of “elder abuse and financial exploitation.” John Amos reportedly denied these allegations at the time. The following month, K.C. Amos was arrested for allegedly sending threatening messages and images of firearms to his sister.
