Jodeci’s DeVante Swing Named Co-Defendant in Diddy Assault Lawsuit
The singer is accused of witnessing and failing to prevent the alleged assault.
DeVante Swing, a key member of the 90s R&B group Jodeci and the producer behind many of their biggest hits, has been named a co-defendant in a lawsuit involving Diddy and fellow artist Aaron Hall. Known for his work at Uptown Records, where Diddy also got his start before founding Bad Boy Records, DeVante Swing now faces serious legal accusations linked to his past association with Diddy.
The lawsuit, initially filed in November 2023 by Liza Gardner, alleges that both Diddy and Aaron Hall sexually assaulted her in 1990 when she was just 16 years old. Gardner claims the men took advantage of her after giving her alcohol at Hall’s house. Now, she is adding DeVante Swing to the list of defendants, alleging that he was present at the time of the assault and did nothing to intervene.
According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Gardner claims DeVante Swing was in the room when the alleged assault occurred and failed to stop it. Another woman who claims to have been present corroborated this, saying the Jodeci singer was “leaning against the wall or furniture, watching whatever Puffy was doing to Liza.” Gardner also asserts that Swing was responsible for bringing her to Hall’s home, identifying him as her “co-guardian” at the time.

The lawsuit accuses DeVante Swing of providing alcohol and marijuana to a minor and enabling the situation, stating that he had a duty to protect Gardner, as her parents had entrusted him with her care. The amended complaint criticizes Swing for his alleged role in facilitating the situation that led to the assault. As of now, DeVante Swing, who is currently on a European tour with Jodeci, has not responded to the allegations.
