No, A Jeffersons Reboot Starring Anthony Anderson & Regina King Isn’t Coming to Paramount+ in 2025

Despite going viral, the poster circulating online promoting a reboot of The Jeffersons starring Anthony Anderson and Regina King is not real.

Rumors of a reboot for the iconic CBS sitcom The Jeffersons lit up social media after a Facebook user named @YODA BBY ABY shared a fan-made poster. The image claimed that a “modern reimagining” of the classic series was set to premiere on Paramount+ in November 2025.The viral description cast Anthony Anderson as George Jefferson, a successful dry-cleaning business owner who moves his family into a luxury Manhattan penthouse after hitting the Mega Millions jackpot. Regina King was listed as Louise “Weezy” Jefferson, navigating life in a rapidly changing New York City. The supposed series was said to have 10 episodes and feature themes of identity and family. The Jeffersons: A Groundbreaking Sitcom

The Jeffersons aired on CBS from 1975 to 1985, and was one of television’s first shows to feature a wealthy African-American family. Created by Norman Lear, it was a successful spin-off of All in the Family and starred Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford as George and Louise Jefferson.

The sitcom became known for blending humor with serious social issues, including racism, gun control, adult illiteracy, substance abuse, and gender identity — all within a sitcom format. It ran for 11 seasons and produced 253 episodes.

The series earned 14 Emmy nominations, winning two. In 1981, Isabel Sanford became the first Black woman to win Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

Cancellation Without Closure

Despite its popularity, The Jeffersons was abruptly canceled after 11 seasons. The cast wasn’t notified in advance; some members reportedly found out from tabloids after the final episode aired.

In 1993, the original cast — including Sanford, Hemsley, Roxie Roker, Franklin Cover, and Marla Gibbs — reunited for a live stage tour titled The Jeffersons Live: The Movin’ On Up Tour, reenacting classic scenes from the show.

Characters from the sitcom would later make appearances on shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Grand Hotel.

Previous Reboot Talks and 2019 Live Special

In a 2016 interview with Variety, Norman Lear confirmed he was in talks with Sony Pictures Television about rebooting several of his classic shows, including The Jeffersons. However, those plans did not move forward.

In May 2019, ABC aired a one-night special titled Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons. It featured Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson, Wanda Sykes as Louise, and Jovan Adepo as Lionel.

Conclusion

While fans would love to see The Jeffersons return in a modern form, the viral poster is entirely fan-made. As of now, there are no official plans for a reboot featuring Anthony Anderson, Regina King, or a Paramount+ release.
