Jay-Z’s Accuser Stands by Allegations as Legal Battle Escalates

The woman who accused Jay-Z of sexual assault reaffirmed her claims in new court filings, directly contradicting the rapper’s recent lawsuit, which alleges she admitted to fabricating the allegations. In response, Jay-Z’s legal team has submitted testimony from private investigators and is demanding that the accuser sit for a deposition.

In documents filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday (March 3), the unidentified Jane Doe stated that she never recanted her story when questioned last month by investigators representing Jay-Z. She described the experience as “intimidating and terrifying” and denied that her attorney, Tony Buzbee, had pressured her into filing the lawsuit.

JANE DOE

Doe’s sworn affidavit directly disputes allegations made by Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) in a separate lawsuit filed earlier that same day. The rapper claimed that Doe had “voluntarily admitted” to his team that her now-dismissed lawsuit was based on false accusations.

“Although I ultimately chose not to pursue them, I stand by my claims in the New York action and believe that I had a meritorious claim against Jay-Z,” Doe stated in her filing. “I ultimately decided to dismiss the [case] because I was frightened by the reaction of Jay-Z and his supporters, and the likelihood that I would have to be publicly named and subjected to public attacks.”

She also emphasized that Buzbee had neither recruited her nor pushed her to implicate Jay-Z in her claims. “I told them that neither of those things ever happened, and I asked them to leave me alone,” she wrote.

JAY Z’S TEAM REACTS

Following Doe’s filing, Jay-Z’s legal team responded swiftly. In a series of new filings on Wednesday (March 5), they provided sworn statements from private investigators who allegedly spoke with Doe, requesting that the judge allow their testimonies to be added to the case record.

One investigator stated, “Jane Doe stated to me that Mr. Carter did not sexually assault her.” The same investigator also claimed Doe told him, “Buzbee brought Jay-Z into it” and that “he was the one that kind of pushed me towards going forward with him.” Another investigator alleged that Doe said lawyers at Buzbee’s firm suggested that pursuing Jay-Z could result in a financial settlement.

Additionally, Jay-Z’s lawyers urged the judge to allow them to depose both Doe and Buzbee under oath. “The new declaration only further reinforces the need for Jane Doe and Mr. Buzbee to sit for a deposition regarding their conversations, including her discussions with his colleagues who convinced Jane Doe to drop her lawsuit,” they wrote.

TONY BUZBEE CLARIFICATION

Depositions are usually conducted later in the legal process, but Jay-Z’s attorneys argue that Doe’s latest statements justify moving forward with questioning her immediately.

In a statement to Billboard on Wednesday, Buzbee strongly denied the claims made by Jay-Z’s investigators, asserting that they “flat out made all of this up.” He added, “I can’t wait to see what they have been paid and who is paying them.”

Buzbee also clarified that Doe’s case originated in October through another law firm via Facebook before being referred to his firm. “The allegation that I sat with Jane Doe and suggested a suit against Jay-Z is not only a lie, it’s provably and demonstrably false and is contrary to the documentation from referring counsel’s intake process and our own firm documents,” he stated.

DIDDY INVOLVED IN CASE

The lawsuit against Jay-Z, filed in December, accused him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The allegations expanded the existing claims against Combs and fueled speculation about other high-profile individuals potentially being implicated in Diddy’s alleged history of abuse.

Jay-Z has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them a “blackmail attempt.” He accused Buzbee of orchestrating a scheme to extort settlements from celebrities by falsely linking them to Combs and vowed to fight back.

Last month, Doe suddenly dropped the lawsuit without explanation and without receiving any payment from Jay-Z. Two weeks later, Jay-Z filed a defamation and malicious prosecution lawsuit against both Doe and Buzbee, alleging they engaged in an “evil conspiracy” to extract a settlement through false allegations.

“Mr. Carter does not commence this action lightly,” his attorneys stated in Monday’s lawsuit. “But the extortion and abuse of Mr. Carter by Doe and her lawyers must stop.”

Doe’s latest filing, which rebuts Jay-Z’s claims, was submitted in a separate lawsuit in California, where Jay-Z is suing Buzbee for extortion and defamation. In a recent hearing, a Los Angeles judge indicated that while he may dismiss the extortion claims, he is likely to allow the defamation case against Buzbee to proceed.
