Former “Making the Band” Star Dylan Dilinjah Arrested for Alleged Assault

Dylan Dilinjah, a reggae and dancehall artist known for his time on MTV’s Making the Band, has reportedly been arrested following an altercation in North Carolina.

According to TMZ Hip Hop, the Apex Police Department booked Dylan—real name Dylan John—on Thursday, April 3, in Wake County. Authorities claim he was involved in a physical dispute with a man named Paul Joseph Galullo, during which Dylan allegedly slapped him in the face at least twice with an open hand. He was charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor offense.

Dylan posted a $500 bond and was released the same day. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 1, pending any changes.

While this incident is a far cry from the high-profile legal issues surrounding Diddy, Dylan’s former label boss, it still brings renewed attention to the Making the Band alum. Dylan rose to fame during the second iteration of the reality show and became a pop culture staple thanks in part to his onscreen clashes with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Wyclef Jean. His legacy was further cemented—though controversially—by Dave Chappelle’s Chappelle’s Show parody, which famously poked fun at Dylan’s persona.

In a 2023 interview, Dylan opened up about the long-term effects of that skit.
“Any time I send my music to DJs, they say, ‘Oh, that’s the dude Dave Chappelle made fun of. Nah, I’m good on that,'” he said. “Now I have a newborn, the fridge is empty in 2005, and no one is calling me. Everyone is laughing. I’m a legend now! But [back then] I was f***ed up for what he did. That joke burned my career.”

As of now, Dylan has not publicly addressed the recent arrest.
