Former En Vogue Singer Dawn Robinson Opens Up About Living in Her Car
Dawn Robinson, formerly of En Vogue, recently shared a major life update in a YouTube video, which was later highlighted by The Shade Room. In a candid moment, Robinson revealed, “You guys, for the past three years — almost three years — I have been living in my car.” After making the admission, she let out a relieved laugh and added, “I said it, it’s out!”
The 58-year-old singer explained that she moved in with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020, but the situation became difficult when her mother began taking out frustrations on her. As a result, she made the decision to leave.

Robinson then relocated to Los Angeles with the help of her manager at the time, who initially arranged for her to stay in a hotel. However, as the costs became unsustainable, she began researching “car life” videos and ultimately decided that living in her vehicle was the best option—especially since she felt her manager wasn’t truly looking out for her best interests.
Despite the challenges, Robinson shared that she has a strong support system, including her brother, assistant, and her ex-partner’s mother. She also expressed that, surprisingly, the experience has brought her a sense of liberation.
“I felt free. I was so free,” she said. “I felt like, ‘Wow, this is so different.’ I felt like I was on a camping trip, and I felt like this was the right thing to do. I don’t regret it.”
Robinson made it clear that she’s not looking for sympathy but instead wants to share her journey of personal growth and healing. “This is not like a ‘Poor Dawn’ situation,” she explained. “I’m learning about who I am; I’m learning myself as a person — as a woman.”
