FIFA Eyes Drake for 2026 World Cup Amid Kendrick Lamar Rivalry
FIFA is considering adding fuel to the ongoing rap battle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar—this time, on the world’s biggest sports stage.
Drake took a major loss in his 2024 feud with Kendrick Lamar. With the one-two punch of Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us, Lamar decisively outclassed his rival. The Compton rapper carried this momentum into 2025, dominating both the Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl Halftime Show. His album continues to challenge Drake’s on the Billboard charts, despite being released months earlier. But the 6 God isn’t backing down, and a recent comment from FIFA President Gianni Infantino hints at a potential opportunity for him to reclaim some ground.
FIFA President Considers Drake for Halftime Show
During a recent appearance on Good Day New York, Infantino discussed preparations for the 2026 World Cup. When host Rosanna Scotto suggested Drake as a potential performer for the event’s Halftime Show—pointing out how Lamar dissed him at the Super Bowl—the FIFA President seemed intrigued.
“I have a great idea for you for the Halftime,” Scotto remarked. “Drake… Kendrick Lamar dissed him at the Super Bowl.”
Infantino acknowledged his existing connection with the Toronto rapper, recalling Drake’s involvement in FIFA’s announcement of the World Cup’s host cities. He even entertained the idea of reaching out. “That’s a good idea,” Infantino said. “I should have his number somewhere.”

Will Drake Take the World Cup Stage?
Speculation about Drake performing at the World Cup Halftime Show has been circulating since early 2024. His involvement in FIFA’s host city announcement only fueled the rumors, especially after he publicly praised the decision to bring the event to Canada.
“Canada as a whole, we have an incredible melting pot,” Drake said at the time. “In Toronto, there are just so many different cultural experiences. So when the world comes, it’s going to be beautiful.”
Despite the speculation, no official plans have been made. So far, the only confirmed names working on the Halftime Show are Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey, who are curating the event in partnership with Global Citizen.
“I can confirm the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey,” Infantino stated. “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”
As FIFA’s official ambassador for Canada, Drake is a strong candidate, but nothing is set in stone. While fans and commentators like Mal and DJ Akademiks have fueled expectations, official confirmation is still pending. Whether the 6 God uses this global stage to respond to Kendrick remains to be seen.
