EXCO LEVI Responds To Juno Awards Removing Reggae Award

Changes to several categories at the 2025 Juno Awards have sparked concerns among musicians, who fear that Canada’s premier music event is stepping back from its commitment to inclusivity.

According to a letter obtained by The Canadian Press, the Junos informed committee members of their plans to place reggae recording, children’s album, Christian/gospel album, and international album of the year categories on “hiatus” for 2025.

Junos organizers declined to elaborate on the changes but stated they would provide “additional information in the next couple of weeks.”

EXCO LEVI

The Juno Awards have celebrated the work of Canadian reggae star, Exco Levi, and fans awaited to hear his response to the news.

Since the announcement that the reggae category has been dropped from the 2025 Juno Awards in Canada, many people have been talking about me because I’ve won the award five times. My name and pictures have been mentioned in almost every post online, with some saying there are too many repetitive winners.

The truth is, people only complain about someone winning too often in the reggae category. There are other genres where artists have won far more times than I have. This is just a classic “crabs in a barrel” mentality or the Willie Lynch syndrome.

To those feeling bitter or envious about my Juno wins, here’s my Spotify report. Kindly review it. And if you’re an artist living in Canada, feel free to post yours.
Ask yourself this: If the Junos based their winners on numbers, I would need to make space in my garage to store even more trophies!

EXCO LEVI PAYS HOMAGE TO THE LEGENDARY BOB MARLEY

Levi was born in Harmons, Manchester Parish, Jamaica, where he first discovered his love for singing through his involvement in the school choir. His father, Michael “Mr. Cool” Levy, was a selector for the Super Soul sound system in Clarendon. In 2005, Levi moved to Canada and began his recording career two years later with the release of his debut single, “O’ Canada.” His stage name, “Exco,” is a tribute to his football idol, Andrés Escobar.
