Everybody Still Hates Chris Trailer Drops For Animated Reboot

Fans adored it when Chris Rock and Ali LeRoi transformed Rock’s Brooklyn upbringing in the late ’80s into the beloved sitcom, “Everybody Hates Chris.” Since its 2005 debut on the now-defunct UPN, the show followed young Chris (Tyler James Williams) and his family — thrifty dad Julius (Terry Crews), tough-loving mom Rochelle (Tichina Arnold), mischievous sister Tonya (Imani Hakim), and smooth-talking brother Drew (Tequan Richmond). The show has since developed a devoted fanbase through syndication and streaming. Now, Chris and his family are back in animated form, with some familiar voices returning.

“I never thought I would be back playing Julius, and this is the best dream because the show got canceled, and we didn’t want it to,” says Terry Crews, who reprises his role as Julius in Comedy Central’s “Everybody Still Hates Chris”, speaking to Entertainment Weekly. “We had more stories to tell. It felt like we were yanked. We were the darlings of the network, and then we jumped into *Gossip Girl*, and there was a different kind of network.”

EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS THE ORIGINAL

When UPN shut down in 2006, many of its shows, including *Everybody Hates Chris*, *Veronica Mars*, and *Girlfriends*, were moved to its successor, The CW, where *Everybody Hates Chris* concluded in 2009. Tichina Arnold, who also reprises her role as Rochelle, expressed a similar sentiment. “We thought we had at least three more seasons,” Arnold shares. “It just wasn’t resolved for us.”

Thankfully, *Everybody Still Hates Chris* serves as both a sequel and a reboot, picking up immediately after the original series’ finale, “Everybody Hates the G.E.D.”

When the series kicks off, Chris (now voiced by Tim Johnson Jr.) has failed his G.E.D. and is at a diner with his family — Drew (Terrence Little Gardenhigh), Tonya (Ozioma Akagha), Julius (Crews), and Rochelle (Arnold). After confessing his failure to them, Rochelle slaps Chris, and the whole world turns animated. The entire family, along with Brooklyn, transitions into a 2D animated universe.

GLIMPSE INTO CHRIS ROCK’S LIFE

Much like the original, the animated series offers a semi-autobiographical glimpse into Chris Rock’s life. Rock returns as the narrator, voicing an adult Chris reflecting on his childhood. While Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold reprise their roles as Chris’s parents, Tyler James Williams, the original Chris, is now too old for the part (and busy with other projects), so Tim Johnson Jr. steps into the role. He is joined by Terrence Little Gardenhigh and Ozioma Akagha, who take on the roles of Chris’ siblings, Drew and Tonya.

The animation is being handled by Titmouse, a studio known for its work on projects like *Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* and *Scavengers Reign*, as well as video games like *Hi-Fi Rush*. With their experience, fans can expect the animation to be in good hands.
