Eve Says Janet Jackson Saved Her Life After Being Drugged At Parrty

In 2007, rapper Eve experienced a frightening moment at a VMAs afterparty.

After casually leaving and picking up her drink throughout the night, she began to feel strange about an hour after taking her last sip. This unsettling experience, which Eve has shared before, resurfaced following the release of her memoir, Who’s That Girl?

A segment from her book, titled after her 2001 hit song, was recently shared by the Female Rap Room account on X (formerly known as Twitter):

“Missy (Elliott) came in to check on me, but I was just unable to collect myself,” Eve, now 45, wrote about the incident. “Then who walks in, Janet Jackson. I had never met her before, and so her first introduction to me was seeing me hysterical. None of that mattered to Janet; she actually just sprang into action and told people to get aspirin, water, hot sauce, and a piece of white bread. That concoction knocked me right out of my hysteria. So basically Janet Jackson saved my life.”

Eve had previously recounted this story in 2018 while co-hosting The Talk. Reflecting on that night, she explained, “I started feeling crazy and not drunk. I knew immediately something was different. And it was weird because I was there but I wasn’t there… I started hysterically crying.”

As her friends moved her into a separate room, Eve kept repeating that something felt off. It was then that she heard a calm voice reassure her, “It’s OK, it’s OK, I’ll take care of it.” That voice turned out to be none other than Janet Jackson.

“She’s like, ‘I got this, don’t worry, relax. Calm down,’” Eve recalled. It was their first-ever encounter, and Eve was mortified, even joking about how she didn’t want to meet such an icon while she was “snot crying” and overwhelmed.

EVE CAREER RETROSPECTIVE

Born Eve Jeffers in Philadelphia, Eve became a trailblazer in hip-hop. She made history as the first female rapper to win a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2002 with “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” her collaboration with Gwen Stefani, which soared to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her 2002 track “Gangsta Lovin’” featuring Alicia Keys also reached No. 2 on the charts.

Eve’s debut album, Let There Be Eve… Ruff Ryders’ First Lady (1999), was a major success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making her just the third female hip-hop artist to achieve this feat. Her sophomore album, Scorpion (2001), garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.

In addition to her musical accomplishments, Eve has proven herself as a talented actress. She’s appeared in films such as Barbershop, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Barbershop: The Next Cut, XXX, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, The Cookout, and Whip It. She also received two Daytime Emmy nominations for her work as a co-host on The Talk.
